Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to demolish a house in the Bay Area?

Most Bay Area residential demolition projects fall in the $15,000-$45,000 range, depending on square footage, foundation type, asbestos or lead conditions, debris disposal cost, and site access. Larger or more complex homes price higher. Mavco gives a fixed-price quote after a free site visit.

How long does house demolition take?

Once permits are in hand, the physical demolition of a typical single-family home takes 3-7 days. Permit timelines vary by city - most Bay Area jurisdictions take 2-6 weeks to issue a demo permit. We pull the permit while you finalize your build plans.

Do I need a permit to demolish my house?

Yes, in every Bay Area jurisdiction. You will need a demolition permit from your city or county, BAAQMD asbestos clearance, and signed utility shutoffs. Mavco handles all of it.

What about asbestos and lead?

Homes built before 1981 require asbestos testing. If positive, the asbestos must be abated by a licensed crew before demolition begins. Mavco coordinates testing and abatement so your timeline does not slip.

Can I save money by donating materials first?

Yes. If your home has reusable finishes - hardwood, cabinets, architectural details - you can typically come out ahead by running a deconstruction before the structural demo. Ask us to walk it both ways and compare.
